The Odin black faucet from Jason Wu for Brizo

Jason Wu for Brizo: The Odin black faucet

As Rachel Lupton, bstyle Interior Designer, and I walked this year’s Kitchen and Bath Industry Show floor, we noticed a more positive audience. There were “New” signs everywhere, meaning the manufacturers had been at work designing new products. There was an excitement in the air and a lot of positive energy.

Here are some of the product trends:

1) Black Faucets
Matte black faucets were in just about every faucet manufacturer’s booth. We noticed one designer that may have influenced the trend; Jason Wu had designed a special line for Brizo. We saw new black faucets at Delta and Kohler; and we know that American Standard is coming out with a matte black line as well.

2) Low-Flow Technologies
Every plumbing manufacturer has their own twist on low-flow technologies, including an extended shower line by Delta. We saw Delta’s new shower heads using H2Okinetic technology that uses larger water droplets so that the shower experience is more enjoyable.

3) Glass-Front Appliances
We saw new glass-front appliances from both Subzero/Wolf and Liebherr. Subzero/Wolf’s line was black, and Leibherr had a white version in the best of show at KBIS 2012.

4) Over-Sized Hardware
At Richelieu and Hafele we noticed over-sized pulls and knobs. These larger sizes help with the visual aesthetic of over-sized doors and bring back that 70s design appeal.

5) New Laminate Edging
Both Formica and WilsonArt introduced new edges for their laminate lines. The edges mean that consumers will not have to see that dark edge line on the edge of their countertops. Don’t miss our blog post about Formica’s new laminate profiles.
