I think it’s safe to say that we all want a kitchen that has personality and speaks to the character of our home. While décor and furnishings are regularly used to accomplish this, some of the most impactful strategies are often overlooked. Incorporating design accents and decorative touches at the cabinetry level can really give your kitchen style and that custom look.
Following are some ideas for knocking your cabinetry design out of the park.
Molding can be used in multiple ways with cabinetry. The most recognizable use is as crown molding to top the upper wall cabinets. Here, molding draws the eye up and adds detail to create a finished look. Try combining multiple molding pieces to create a unique…
Redesigning a home is an exciting process with a big reward at completion. Perhaps it’s a nice addition, or maybe it’s a remodeled kitchen with shiny new appliances. Whatever the case, it’s a well-deserved prize that was a long time in the making. But by no means is a remodel all fun and games.
It’s no secret that remodels are expensive. And when large sums of money are at stake, people can start acting funny — even your significant other. They may never have offered their opinion on carpet or rugs before, but now, surprisingly, every design decision matters. This is to be expected. As are the eventual disagreements you two will face.
But what do you do when your expectations and wishes don’t match? Never fear. Here are…
As a kitchen designer with CliqStudios.com, I have the benefit of working with a diverse range of clients that are looking to incorporate the richness of their heritage into their home. Through working many years in the business, I have learned that a kitchen does not have to be extravagant and expensive to be a warm, welcoming gathering space that expresses the deep richness of family culture.
I had the pleasure of working on such a project with a family from New Jersey. Ismail contacted me looking to put together a new kitchen design for his wife. It was a modest-sized kitchen renovation. Surprisingly, this was a DIY project, and Ismail was acting as both the general contractor and installer.
At the time…
It’s always fun to see what the creative, handy types can come up with next. Recently, I’ve been seeing more and more DIYers make some pretty awesome things for their home using only two of the most basic materials: plumbing pipe and hardwood.
These projects impress me for two reasons: their striking style and the variety of applications. What I like about the style is how unexpectedly well the contrast works. The hard, industrial quality of steel juxtaposes ever so nicely with the timeworn warmth of salvaged hardwood. In terms of application, many have been successful using these two materials to create an inspiring range of designs.
It’s the simplicity of the piping and the wood that makes them so amazingly versatile. Piping, for one, comes in range of…
So you’ve decided to remodel part of your home. Maybe it’s a kitchen makeover with brand new kitchen cabinets. Maybe it’s a refresh of a dated bathroom. Or maybe it’s something different altogether. Regardless, if you’re like most homeowners, you’ll need some help from a builder or general contractor, as well as a couple of other experienced professionals, in order to complete the project.
Selecting the right person for the job can be tough process though. The best choice will possess the necessary skills, effective time-management, and deep knowledge of the subject, all supported by a sufficient amount of hands-on experience.
To help you home in on the best contractor for your project, here is a list of the “must ask” questions for candidates.…
One of the most refreshing benefits of having designer friends and peers is that they will come over to my home and help me with a quick restaging. They see things differently than I do, and that’s a great way to start.
Usually, we clear out whatever room I’m restaging and start new. Any piece of furniture or home décor is up for grabs from the rest of the house. Whatever looks best is the rule of thumb. We’ll try different angles and different furniture positions until we find the new, perfect fit.
Once we start positioning furniture, we look at the following factors for successful room staging:
1) Natural light — Take advantage of the room’s view to the outside and keep the natural light…
As a kitchen designer, I’ve been a part of many remodels. I know the intricacies of the design process and what it takes to bring a remodel from beginning to completion. But with as much experience as I’ve had, I’ve never actually had the opportunity to eat, sleep and breathe a remodel!
Recently, I was given this chance. The kitchen I helped remodel was none other than the one I grew up in at my mom’s house! This was so exciting for me! Not only was it gratifying to give her something she has wanted for a long time, but it was also rewarding for me to get hands-on, directly at the worksite. That’s surely something I don’t get every day working at a .com!

Every time we shoot photography with kitchen appliances involved, there’s a discussion about what cleaners to use on stainless steel. Everyone has their own opinion, but after trying several options, we come to the conclusion that stainless steel needs a dedicated stainless steel cleanser.
According to the Stainless Steel Industry of America, fingerprints and smears could be cleaned with water and a soft cloth. If you need more cleansing, see the chart attached for actual product recommendations.
The key to cleaning stainless is to remember that it is a metal surface that is subject to corrosion and scratching. There are a lot of cleansers that could scratch the surface of the stainless. Make sure to look for nonabrasive cleansers and use a sponge or nonabrasive cloth for cleaning.…

Everyone can appreciate a little color. This year, instead of bursts of basics, brighter variations of the color wheel is where it’s at. For example, a splash of a deep merlot or flowery fuchsia will add more flair than a standard red.
Pantone recently highlighted Emerald as its color of the year for everything from fashion and branding to art and home. As we’ve discussed in other posts,
